about: testimonial
Obviously, I write for a living. And I love it. Love, love, love! But what I never want to write are testimonials for myself because that just doesn’t seem right to me. So, as you’re reading the ones below, keep in mind they are shown in their entirety and original form — straight from the client's (or former boss's) mouth.
Emily provided the clever copywriting that we needed to launch the TCM Boutique on our website. Easy to work with and able to turn around what we needed in a timely fashion, we appreciated the fact that she always offered plenty of options for us to work with.
— Genevieve McGillicuddy, Marketing Manager, Turner Classic Movies
Ten days before presenting creative for new business and our writers were busy on other projects. And it had to be good. A serendipitous call led us to Emily. It's not easy finding excellent writers who can deliver great creative, stay on strategy and keep it fun. From the beginning, Emily really listened to understand the project and then ran with it. Her first round of ideas were packed with excellent verbal and visual ideas that were on target. The end result? We not only won the new business, but their entire account and we added a real asset in Emily to our creative team.

Emily is great to work with. She's flexible, timely and actually interested in the big picture. Her enthusiasm is contagious and I feel like she really strives to nail down the perfect tone and message.

Emily did a fantastic job writing our web site. The new web site was the final piece of new brand identity that included a refreshed logo, new colors and visuals — and Emily's writing gave us a voice and a personality to match. She worked within our timing and budget and collaborated well with me and our other internal contributors and stakeholders. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Emily again or recommend her to colleagues.
— Erik Wolf, former Senior Marketing Communications Manager, Kids II, Inc.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta submitted a fairy tale book to tell the story of Children's employees as part of their Fortune, "100 Best Companies to Work For," materials. Emily did an excellent job of using employee interviews to tell the Children's story in the perfect fairy tale style to complement the beautiful illustrations and design of the book. Children's was named No. 35 on the 2007 list.
— Nicole Lillis, Director of Internal Communication, Haystack Group
Emily has a true gift for embracing concepts and executing them to their fullest potential. When she takes on a project, she takes ownership and works to understand the problem and find the right solution. She asks the right questions and is able to get the meat of the issue with flair.
— Tonya Beach, Principal, Beach Creative
We first engaged Emily on a project that was already over budget. Our client had the proverbial “champagne taste, beer budget” approach to advertising. Emily provided three themes for a print ad — each with several variations — that rivaled the top creative agencies for a fraction of the cost.
Emily is much more than a copywriter: she's a creative director who understands our expectations; she's an Account Executive who's patient and professional with our clients; she's a valuable and integral extension of our organization.
— Jamie Martin, VP, Partners Marketing Group, Inc.
Emily knows the business of advertising. It's not creative just for creative's sake. Her concepts sell product. She is a delight to work with because she adheres to a strategy and doesn't bring to the table anything that doesn't follow the approved strategy. It seems obvious. But many copywriters don't actually do this. It's their way or the highway. With Emily, you know you're going to get strong ideas that break through the clutter. And you're also going to get someone that you look forward to working with on your next project.
— Chris Steele, President, Steele+
I enjoyed working with Emily, because she cares about getting the copy right.
While a lot of creatives are driven to produce good work for their books, Emily is driven to produce good work for the client.
— Lisa Frazier, Former Director of Account Services, Critt Graham
'The computer can't tell you the emotional story. It can give you the exact mathematical design, but what's missing is the eyebrows. '
"So said Frank Zappa. And that was my original web copy, precise, mathematical, all written in a style that only a robot could love.
Enter Emily. Enter eyebrows. Enter tone and voice, focus and clarity, perspective and direction, relevance and order.
Exit robots. Exit the 2,200 word explanation of exactly how something worked, exit the rambling rant on the true meaning of web development. Exit the 90 word sentences.
She polished the verbiage, nurtured the logic and sculpted the presentation into the upstanding copy it is today. Problems were whupassed and left whimpering about Life not being fair.
In other words I recommend her highly.

My company creates educational web sites for non-profit institutions. We do good work and we've got an excellent reputation. But we're terrible at marketing ourselves, mostly because we have a unique target audience.
Our clients are museum curators, documentary filmmakers and professional educators. We don't want to be seen as a design group, an advertising agency or technology evangelists.
We came to Emily with a list of things that we did NOT want for our brochure — computer jargon, a sales pitch or a design concept. Then we asked her to craft something that reflected our personality.
Emily talked to us, studied our work and came up with a perfect solution.
She gave us several options for headlines, description copy and introductory text that were clever, friendly and informative. Her writing had the same "we're all just folks" attitude that my company is known for, while making sure we came across as seasoned professionals.
The brochure was a huge hit. We should have printed more!

When a Wine Journal for TopKote came about, I had Emily in mind to help me with the copy. TopKote is a superior coated paper from Japan that Unisource stocks in the United States, so the promotion had to be top notch as well. I did research on my own to figure out how the information should flow and did the initial layout for design.
When I met with Emily to discuss the project, she was every excited to take it on. I handed all my materials over to her and she was able write for the amount of space I had in the layout and include all the content I wanted. She helped me finalize the sequence of the book, making any revisions to the copy while I make revisions in layout to include important information.
She was able to tie in the necessary statements about the paper quality and print techniques used in the book also. In the end, our clients in the United States and Japan approved and the sales representatives were happy to take this tool out in the field.
Emily has always been a pleasure to work with and I am very proud of the work we did together on this Wine Journal for TopKote.

Emily delivered more than we ever expected. Her originality in developing our unique and catchy tagline was both refreshing and noteworthy. Our product, Reverse Mortgages, required an approach which was positive but not capricious. We needed to project a serious but upbeat image. Emily succeeded!!
She kept the themes focused with equally, smooth consistency throughout the entire project. i.e. brochures and folders. The response from our audience has been excellent.
Emily was great to work with. Her products were original and prompt. It was a pleasure to find a creative person who was not a dilettante.

Emily is a charm to work with. I simply hand off some samples and give a brief description of my project and she runs with it. I've been working directly with her for over five years and every project comes back before our scheduled deadline. Fast and effective.

Emily patiently listened to our existing messaging, distilled the essence, enhanced it and then clearly, succinctly articulated the message to clients. I highly recommend her.

In luxury retail many believe that location is everything. I challenge that proposition and offer that image is everything. How the public perceives your brand is critical to success.
Working closely with our staff over the past year, Emily has woven with words imagery that, like silk threads forming exquisite fabric flowing with each step, define our business and culture.
From detailed descriptions on our web site to invitations to a special event, she has been a key part of our brand development and keeps us focused on brand.
